mono_cult's Matt Long talks to Different Language
Different Language talk to mono_cult's Matt Long ahead of his return to the party this Halloween.
Your 2011 diary has included many gigs throughout the UK, Ibiza, Croatia, so where is your favourite destination for music and parties?
Hideout festival in croatia has been a major highlight this year. We (mono_cult) played and hosted a few parties whilst we were over there including our wicked sunset boat party with the Jaunt lads. I also ended up filling in as a last minute replacement for Mount Kimbie on the Friday warming up for Dixon at the festival which was ace.
mono_cult has had a great year yet again, what have been your highlights?
Our free daytime party in Distikt back in August with Wbeeza was brilliant and one of the best atmospheres we have ever had and it was a normal Sunday. Also having Joy O and Pearson Sound play together at our last party was ace too and will always remember that.
What do you think are the three most important ingredients to a successful party?
Atmosphere, people and the venue!
"Leeds has a great scene at the moment and real buzz about new producers, labels and bands spanning a lot of different genres..."
We've had parties in warehouses, courtyards, an old fire station and on some random outdoor terraces, what has been the most unique venue you've played at?
Probably The Lounge from back in the day when we first starting throwing parties on there restaurant terrace.
It's been over two years since you last played at Different Language, are you looking forward to being back?
Yes totally, last time i played was your daytime party in the courtyard out the back of the pub. Was great, really good vibes!
Different Language are at a new warehouse space called Fruit with Funktion, have you heard much about the venue?
I think I may have come to the boxing day party that was at the fruit? If its not the one I'm sure it will be good as you always seem to get some great and interesting venues.
You'll be joining fellow Leeds-based artist Laura Jones of Visionquest, has Laura impressed you by becoming one of the scenes rising new talents in such a short time?
Yes I've known Laura for a while and its great to see her doing so well, Leeds has a great scene at the moment and real buzz about new producers, labels and bands spanning a lot of different genres. Look at the likes of Migiuel Campbell, Midland, Simon Baker, Submotion Orchestra, Pearson Sound, Rob James, PBR Streetgang and many more all doing great!
With you over at Different Language for Halloween, will you be spinning in fancy dress?
Haha, you'll have to see!
Thanks Matt, we look forward to seeing you back at Different Language this Halloween!
