Djebali chats with Different Language
Djebali has evolved into an accomplished house producer, launching his self-titled imprint in 2011 and making his Circoloco debut on the terrace at DC10 Ibiza.
Different Language: How are you? how has 2013 been so far for you, any highlights?
Hi guys, I feel good thanks! the beginning of 2013 has been amazing, even better than last year so hopefully it's going to be the same for the rest of the year. Highlights so far, I would say New Year's Day at the Lottus afterhours in Porto, Portugal. It was magical! I played all day long with the resident, in front of an amazing crowd, lots of energy. Also my Ideal Juice residency party at Social Club in Paris with doP and Christian Burkhardt was superb! Looking forward to the next one 1st June.
"I started to go to the vinyl record shop every week and stayed for hours. I felt at home among all the records..."
For those who haven't seen you play yet, how would you describe your sound?
Well hard to describe but I would say that I play house, warm and groovy... I play a lot of old tracks from my vinyl collection.
You're very passionate about vinyl, tell us why!
It's been a passion since I was 15. I started to go to the vinyl record shop every week and stayed for hours. I felt at home among all the records! I love everything about it, the object, the cover sleeve, the way you have to play it, you can also 'read' it, see where the breaks are, you interact with the music much more than a cd or a mp3.
Your ( djebali ) label is going from strength to strength, is the plan to continue releasing your music only on the label?
Yes for now, I will continue to do the same. There is a series of guest remixes coming off my previous tracks on the label, expect no less than some very cool names! the original tracks will still be from myself for now though.
Which other artists are impressing you at the moment?
Well on the production front I love the groove of Tuccillo and all the work by John Dimas... really great stuff! I always play at least 1 or 2 tracks by him in my sets. And of course the return of Point G! For DJ's, Sonja Moonear has impressed me a lot, as well as Margaret Dygas.

How is your residency with 'Ideal Juice' at Social Club Paris going?
It's going great! We've already invited great artists like The Mole, Maayan Nidam, Premiesku, Genius of time and Bill Patrick. I'm really looking forward to the next party on 1st June with The Martinez Brothers! It will be just after the Circoloco opening so I bet they'll bring an amazing vibe with them to Social Club.
What do you like to do when you're not travelling or producing?
Well these days it's a lot about producing, travelling for gigs and digging music. I love to watch movies (at cinema it's better but it's been a while since I went there) and also spend time with friends and family, sharing moments.
Your career accelerated a lot in the last couple of years, where do you see yourself in the future?
In Hull! Lol, it's hard to say. I hope I'll be doing what I'm doing now for years because I love it! So, nothing more than still running my label - maybe in a different way - having my own party, like Ideal Juice to invite friends, playing gigs and producing the music I love, without too much stress!
Thanks for talking, see you at the weekend!
